The Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care are developed through a rigorous consensus process that involves over 100 healthcare professionals from across all healthcare disciplines. The conceptual framework followed for this update is the Practice Guideline Evaluation and Adaptation Cycle (Graham et al 2005). Once the recommendations are confirmed, a set of accompanying performance measures are developed through a similar and equally rigorous process to facilitate monitoring of the quality of care delivery and identify opportunities for improvement.
